What does BMW M mean to you?

January 30, 2025

In 1972 BMW Motorsport GmbH was created with only 35 employees with an emphasis racing and to this day is the desire for all BMW enthusiasts. With over 50 years of evolution the most powerful letter has evolved drastically be it the powerplant for McLaren F1, the beacon when you open your garage and tackle that project vehicle, or the goal you have when hearing a new ///M model is coming to a local dealership near you. From a full on race car smelling of sweat and gasoline to an SUV with groceries pilled in the back, the DNA and presence is still felt  no matter how separated. So, what does BMW ///M mean to you? I’ll start…

Over 20 years ago is when I first sat behind the wheel of my very own BMW. I had been working in the wash bay at the local dealership and the Roundel instantly captivated me in the driving dynamics as well as the comradery and community that surrounded the perceived ownership experience. When an E36 328i sedan was traded into the Pre-Owned department I knew I had to have it. I had to join this group of enthusiasts and allow myself to be entrenched. With Ramen on the menu for the foreseeable future I signed the paperwork and drove off in MY E36 Hellrot 328i Sedan 5-Speed – I lived three miles away from work and it took my two hours to get home that night.

When I did make it home ensuring I parked it as if I was a visitor to the apartment complex I immediately went online to learn as much as possible. This of course meant creating an account on BFC, signing up for the local BMW CCA Chapter, and absorbing any content found on Streetfire. Diving directly into the E36 chassis discussions I couldn’t help but eye conversations surrounding the M3 and the comparison to the 328. The M52 vs the S52 engine for example. While not as stark as the dialogue occurring over with the E46s there was an innate desire to see that letter on the back of my next car. Not deterred I of course proceeded with a CDV delete, OBDI intake, SSK, and CAI… Out of all of those letters though "M" was still looming.

It represented the very best our beloved brand had to offer. It was bestowed in history on the racetrack, you envisioned what it would be like to pilot one to a car meet, and the visceral feeling was enhanced by all levels. The service procedures were different, the “No Wash” stickers were deployed on these models, the dealership moved in a different way when an M3 or M5 entered the service floor. It was a special and exclusive experience from all aspects. It was a goal to obtain and I’m now incredibly humbled to be surrounded by what we believe to be the very best BMW ///M has and had to offer.

We recognize your experience and opinion may vary, but believe strongly the enthusiasm is still rooted in the passion these vehicles invoke. We find it a privilege to preserve that passion with all of the vehicles we offer for sale, the BMW’s we have shipped to our facility around the world for rejuvenation, and position in which we find ourselves to share what with the community. Everything we offer is powered by the most powerful letter in the alphabet, the letter ///M.
