This E39 M5 is one of the final M5s of this generation produced, with an April 2003 build date, and production of the model ending in June of that year. Finished in Carbon Black, this wonderful example shows 73,248 miles at the time of cataloging and is on its second trip through our workshop. Sold new in Southern California, this car was in the greater Los Angeles area until 2006, when it was sold to Washington state, where it lived until coming to us in 2011. Since then, the car has been under the care of a single owner, who has enjoyed and cared for the car in Michigan.
The car is largely unmodified aside from an upgraded Hizpo head that looks very close to the factory unit but has both Android Auto and a Can Bus Decoder system. This car was fitted with the Sport interior option in black leather. This means that the seats have imitation ostrich skin Napa leather centers and bruised aluminum dash, door, and center console trim. The overall condition of the interior is very good, and you can tell, looking at the seats, that the previous owners paid attention to not damage the leather or bolsters on the seats.
The E39 M5 chassis is turning 25 years old this year, and even today, it remains the sports sedan that every modern sedan is measured against. That is just one of the many reasons that we at EAG are fans of this chassis, we always try to find great examples, and this one is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best anywhere. In an era where BMW’s slogan was “The Ultimate Driving Machine,” the E39 M5 seems tailor-made to fit that phrase.
