BMW unveiled the E9X series 3-Series at an interesting time in automotive history. The mid-2000s saw technology becoming more prevalent in cars but was before computers had completely taken over the driving experience. What this meant for enthusiasts was systems like traction and stability control were far better integrated into the driving experience but were entirely defeatable if you wanted to take your car past its limit. In addition, these advances in tech made for powertrains that were very highly tuned and offered tremendous power while remaining reliable for everyday use. The E9X M3 perfectly encapsulates this idea- offering an analog feeling naturally aspirated V8 with an outrageous 8,400 rpm redline combined with electronic dampers, an M-tuned stability control system, and an optional dual-clutch transmission. Although in generations that followed, the newer M3s could post better lap times, the switch to turbocharging and increased computer safety nets removed much of the excitement and driver involvement that the M3 built its reputation on.

This 2013 E92 M3 Coupe is an absolutely stunning example, finished in LeMans Blue and showing 36,121 miles at the time of cataloging. Under the care of 3 owners from new, this M3 was fitted from the factory with the sought-after Competition Package, fitting the car with the coveted 19” Y-spoke wheels and a 10mm lower ride height, dynamic damper control suspension with three suspension modes. One often discussed feature of the E92 was the use of an exposed carbon fiber roof, installed in an effort to keep the weight off the top of the vehicle, and offering a very motorsport look in the process. The exterior of this M3 is in very good condition but does show a few minor scuffs in the paint protection film up front, as well as two small rock chips on the wheels. The interior of the car is wrapped in Black Novillo extended leather upholstery . One of the first signs of use on sporty cars like this with large seat bolsters, is creases in the seat leather- this car exhibits almost none of those and the seats, steering wheel and center console even show a nearly matte finish as if the car were brand new. The extended leather fits the M3 with color-matched leather on the center console, door cards and lower dash, which on this car is accented by the E9X chassis’s signature Carbon Leather along the center dashboard.

Under the hood is BMW’s famed S65 V8- a true performance jewel, this engine produces 414 horsepower and will happily rev to 8,400 rpm and sounds great doing it. A 7-Speed DCT gearbox was optioned in this car which is really the ultimate do-anything gearbox. Happy to sit in traffic all day like a normal automatic, when you have a chance to enjoy the car in some spirited driving, it wakes up and offers shifts faster than almost any other car on the road.

The Competition Package fits the M3 with revised programing for both the traction and stability control, offering higher limits and allowing for a bit more slip before the car starts bringing you back into line.

We love all M cars at EAG but the E9X generation M3 holds a special place in our hearts. Between its screaming S65 V8, neutral handling dynamics, overall comfort and just being the right size for our favorite back roads, it is no surprise collectors are already starting to seek these cars out to add to their stables. LeMans Blue fits the shape of this car so well and, when paired with the Comp Pack, this car definitely sits high on our list of perfect M3s.
