The best M3 is a highly debated topic among car enthusiasts. Some prefer the E30 with its DTM style box flares and revvy inline-4, while others favor the newest generation. However, the E90 chassis is one generation that almost every driving enthusiast can agree on. Produced between 2007 and 2013, the E90 M3 is unique in the M3's history as the only variant to feature a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 and the last generation without forced induction. This powerful engine was paired with excellent steering and the choice of either a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed DCT, making it one of the best M3s and a top driver's car of the 2000s and 2010s. It's no surprise that less than 10 years after production ended, collectors are eager to acquire well-maintained examples, causing prices to increase. Given how great these cars are to drive, finding one that hasn’t been driven within an inch of its life is getting harder by the week.
This 2013 BMW E92 M3 was built in July of 2012 and shows just 5,295 miles at the time of cataloging. Finished in Jet Black, the car is in exceptional condition and presents in new in essentially every conceivable way. This vehicle was sold new in September of 2012 to its first and only owner who was based in the greater Los Angeles area. From its first service in April of 2013, until the car came to EAG, this car was always serviced at the original selling dealer Crevier BMW in Santa Ana, CA roughly every 1,500 miles. This M3 was fitted from the factory with the sought-after Competition Package, fitting the car with the coveted 19” Y-spoke wheels and a 10mm lower ride height, dynamic damper control suspension with three selectable suspension modes.
The interior of the E92 M3 is a beautifully simple design, and although there is a central infotainment screen, still gives much of the analog driving experience enthusiasts crave these days. This car’s interior is wrapped in supple Black Novillo leather, which covers the seats and steering wheel, and a strip of attractive “carbon leather” on the dashboard which was a hallmark of the E9X generation M3. As you would expect on a car with such incredibly low miles, the interior could be mistaken for being brand new, with hardly any wear on the steering wheel and barely any creasing on the bolsters of the seats.
Beneath the hood lies a 4.0-liter V8 engine, known to BMW enthusiasts as the S65. It produces 414 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine can rev up to 8,400 rpm, delivering ample power throughout the rev range. Paired with this V8 is a quick-shifting 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission, equipped with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. This transmission works in perfect harmony with the responsive engine, providing precise shifts during spirited driving, as well as convenient two-pedal driving in traffic.
It is no secret that EAG loves this generation of M3- ask anybody at the shop and it will almost surely end up towards the top of their favorites list. When you consider the outright performance of this M3, paired with the remarkable usability and the ability to build a car that feels special from behind the wheel every single day, it’s hard to imagine anything replicating this going forward.
