We strive for perfection at EAG. Even with some of the best, most well-preserved M cars in the world passing through our doors, there is always something we can do to make them better. But every once in a while, a car arrives at our facility that exceeds our wildest expectations– and this E46 M3 is one of those.
Finished in Imola Red, this 2003 BMW M3 was sold new in Spring, Texas in October of 2002. Ordered with nearly every option, this car was then kept by the original owner until it was sold to us in 2024. When writing this, the car shows a scarcely believable 1,934 miles- less than 100 per year and is in like-new condition throughout. The Imola Red paint, paired with a set of 19” ZCP wheels, shows the simple beauty of the E46’s shape perfectly and makes the car look timeless. Although the car is almost entirely standard, a set of clear corner markers like one would have found on the European-market cars, have been installed, but the original pieces are included. Speaking of original parts, if the 1,934 miles wasn’t special enough, the original owner accrued a host of OE bits, including new dealership floormats still in the plastic, a BMW branded sunshade, cup holders and numerous period magazines and brochures relating to the car. Many of these items are just unobtanium these days.
It should come as no surprise that the interior is just as perfect as the exterior of the car. The black leather seats are free of any wrinkles or creases, and the black steering wheel retains its beautiful matte finish, with the red and blue M-color thread as vivid as the day it was installed. Stainless Steel trim was optioned on the dashboard, center console and door handles which provides a nice contrast against the black leather and keeps the interior looking modern and clean. It is difficult to describe the quality of the inside of this car, and even photos don’t do it justice- if you want to feel like you are stepping into a time capsule back to 2003, just slide behind the wheel of this car.
The S54 inline-6 that powers the E46 M3 is, without a doubt one of the greatest engines ever produced by the brand. With dual overhead cams, individual throttle bodies, and VANOS on the intake and exhaust cams, the S54 feels like a proper motorsport engine in the high revs, but that maintains the ability to be happily used around town as well. This example is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, offering great shift action, and is really the ultimate way to enjoy the sublime powerplant. Even though, as far as miles are concerned, this car isn’t even due for its first annual service, it has received comprehensive maintenance throughout its life, with an enormous binder of service invoices to show for it. Additionally, upon its arrival to us, it was still subject to all of the mechanical checks and servicing that every E46 M3 receives.
A sub-2,000-mile M Car may not be right for every enthusiast, but there is no doubt that it is a car every car lover can admire and appreciate. If you spent your younger years dreaming about one day buying a new E46 M3, but the opportunity came and went, this may be one of the final chances you have to make that dream a reality. This is essentially a unreplicable car, and likely one of only a handful left in this condition worldwide.
