*EAG Heritage Vehicle* Avus Blue over Dove Nappa Leather E36 M3!
From the car’s earliest road tests, the E36 M3 was lauded for its neutral handling, forward-looking styling and smooth powerplant- but for US buyers, it was a car that almost didn’t happen. During the development of the E36 M3, it became clear to BMW engineers that if they were going to build a car they could be happy with, the costs were going to become quite high. It was getting to a point where they figured that American buyers would not be interested and in 1992, the car went on sale in markets around the world- but not in North America. Thanks to a letter-writing campaign put on by BMW Car Club of America and a few enthusiastic dealers, BMW came around to the idea and, in 1995, the car finally went on sale stateside. The US cars were equipped with a slightly less advanced motor than that found in the rest of the world but ultimately had nearly the same performance and proved to be exceptionally reliable, with many examples easily exceeding 200,000 miles. Available in coupe, sedan, and convertible, the e36 M3 was a big success for BMW in the US, and in the short four-year production run ending in 1999, nearly 33,000 units were sold.
This 1995 BMW M3 is no stranger to EAG, going through our full rejuvenation process in 2020, and again, prior to this sale. Finished in Avus Blue Metallic over Dove Gray Nappa Leather, this is a particularly desirable color combination and an exterior color only found on early E36 M3s in the US. Showing Just 44,290 miles, the car remains in exceptional condition and shows no significant blemishes anywhere on the vehicle. Sitting on a set of DS1 “Motorsport” wheels, the car has that great first-year E36 M3 look, and they are wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. A stainless SuperSprint exhaust has been added recently and still looks essentially brand new, but we are also happy to return it to a stock setup at the new owner’s request.
Opening the door of this M3 and settling into the interior is like stepping into a time machine. If you are familiar with the E36 chassis, you know that one of the first things to start looking worn is the seats - and Dove Gray was always the worst culprit. Owing to how well this car has been kept, the seats and door cards remain in exceptional condition, with hardly any perceptible wear on the stunning Vader seats and the tri-color M stripe on the backrest still shining like new. Everything on this car remains untouched, including the factory BMW cassette stereo and 4-spoke airbag steering wheel.
Under the hood sits the US spec S52 3.2-liter Inline-6, rated at 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Open the hood and the engine bay is immaculate- if you were told that this car just rolled off the showroom floor, it would be hard to deny. This is backed up by a 5-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. As with all EAG cars, this E36 is subject to our rigorous inspection and every piece not meeting our exacting standards is replaced to ensure the car is turn-key and ready to be enjoyed.
