EAG Impressions

The F8X series (F80 M3 sedan, F82 M4 coupe, F83 M4 convertible) marked a significant shift for BMW's iconic performance models. For the first time, the coupe version adopted the M4 nomenclature, while the M3 badge was reserved for the sedan. Both European and U.S. markets received the same twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine, signaling BMW's commitment to a truly global product. While subtle differences in emissions equipment still resulted in slightly different power outputs, the performance gap between European and U.S. models was smaller than ever before.

Overview

This 2020 BMW M2 CS is finished in Hockenheim Silver Metallic Over a Black Leather and Alcantara Interior. This car was delivered new to BMW of Cincinnati North, and shows just 3,225 miles at the time of cataloging. The M2 CS is immediately identifiable over the other M2 variants thanks to a more aggressive carbon fiber body kit, featuring a carbon extractor vent in the hood, carbon fiber front and rear splitters, and an exposed carbon fiber roof panel. One great thing about the Hockenheim Silver paint color is that all of these exposed carbon bits really stand out and make the car look extra special. The car sits on a set of black-finish 19” Y-Spoke wheels which are wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, and sit in front of red calipers on steel brakes.

The interior of the M2 CS remains largely unchanged from the M2 Competition, prominently showcasing both leather and Alcantara, which is accentuated by red stitching throughout the cabin. The dashboard trim proudly displays a distinct "CS" logo, intricately stitched in red, while the M-Performance seats pay homage to the classic tri-color M-Stripes first seen in the E36 M3. The simple 3-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara, which feels great in your hands and keeps you from losing grip during aggressive driving. BMW has implemented several innovative measures to reduce weight in the M2 CS, including a carbon fiber transmission tunnel that sheds 6 pounds compared to the standard model. Further weight reduction is achieved through the removal of the center armrest and rear air conditioning vents.

Powering the M2 CS is an enhanced variant of the S55 twin-turbocharged Inline-6 found in the M2 Competition. The CS benefits from the addition of the ECU out of an M4 Competition, bumping power from 405 to 444 but with a more exciting power curve meant to make you work for the performance rather than offer up a flat torque curve just off idle. Available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox, the ultimate M2 CS configuration features the 3-pedal option found in this car. Under the hood, a large carbon fiber brace gives the car extra chassis rigidity and looks absolutely stunning, complimenting the extra carbon bits sprinkled around the exterior of the CS.

In the eyes of us at EAG, the M2 CS sits pretty much right at the top of the best-driving BMW M cars of all time. A perfect mixture of tail-out fun, paired with put-together, track etiquette, the M2 CS is really the perfect car for pretty much everything.
