EAG Impressions
The E9X series (E90 sedan, E91 wagon, E92 coupe, E93 convertible) continued BMW's tradition of evolutionary design for the 3-Series. This generation saw increased globalization of BMW's lineup, with U.S. models more closely matching their European counterparts in terms of available engines and features. The E92 M3, powered by a high-revving V8, was virtually identical in both markets, marking a significant milestone for American BMW enthusiasts who had long envied European-spec models.
Overview
This 2013 E92 M3 is finished in Space Gray over Black Leather/Cloth and shows 25,281 miles at the time of cataloging. Fitted with the Competition Package from the factory, this M3 was delivered new to New York and has been under the care of 5 owners from new. As a Competition Package car, this M3 is fitted with the exceptionally sought-after 19” Y-Spoke wheels, and the suspension receives a 10mm drop, giving the car a great stance. A carbon fiber rear decklid spoiler has been fitted to this car, which perfectly matches the carbon fiber roof panel, a signature element of the E92 M3.
The interior is perhaps the most unique part of this car. A combination of leather and cloth upholstery was an available option throughout the E9X model run, yet only a small fraction of the production ended up with this specification. This example is fitted with an almost OEM-looking flat-bottom steering wheel that is wrapped in Alcantara, with a light blue stripe at the 12 o’clock position. Additionally, a ZHP shift knob has been fitted, which is weighted and gives positive shift action and is a welcome upgrade on pretty much any BMW.
Powering the E90 generation M3 is the infamous S65 DOHC V8, which produces 414 horsepower and revs all the way to 8,400 rpm. As BMW's final naturally aspirated M engine, this one made a statement. With 8 individual throttle bodies and VANOS variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust cams, the S65 is capable of providing gobs of low-end power while still revving higher than almost any other V8 on the market and making power around the tachometer. This engine sends power through a 6-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels, which is really the best way to enjoy the E92 M3.
It is no secret that EAG loves the E9X generation M3s. Both the Coupes and Sedans are fantastic cars, and it is hard to choose a favorite. That being said, any Competition Package, manual gearbox equipped car with a partial-cloth interior is a big-time winner in our book.
History
We were incredibly excited to see this new to us arrive given the spec! We performed our full EAG inspection and did find a minor leak at the transmission cooler lines. This was addressed along with ensuring all maintenance was up to date and the vehicle was ready to be enjoyed. Service records indicate this was owned by enthusiasts from the very beginning and look forward to it finding its next lucky owner!
