EAG Impressions
The E9X series (E90 sedan, E91 wagon, E92 coupe, E93 convertible) continued BMW's tradition of evolutionary design for the 3-Series. This generation saw increased globalization of BMW's lineup, with U.S. models more closely matching their European counterparts in terms of available engines and features. The E92 M3, powered by a high-revving V8, was virtually identical in both markets, marking a significant milestone for American BMW enthusiasts who had long envied European-spec models.
Overview
Any true BMW enthusiast knows the color Fire Orange from the E92 M3 GTS and, stateside, the E92 M3 Lime Rock Park Edition Cars. One of the most eye-catching colors on the E9X bodystyle, contrary to popular belief, it was not a color exclusively offered on these limited edition coupes. By special order only, 5 individuals ordered an E90 M3 sedan in this stunning shade and EAG has had the honor of working with a few of them over the years.
History
This 2011 BMW E90 M3 was sold new through Northwest BMW of Owings Mills, MD, and has resided in Maryland, Southern California, and Salem, Oregon, throughout its life. Showing 84,930 miles at the time of cataloging, this Fire Orange M3 is in excellent condition and benefits from a history of main dealer servicing. This E90 is more than just a rare color, though; from the factory, it was equipped with the Competition Package and, with that, the stunning 19” wheels that come with the package and a nice 10mm suspension drop that helps it sit perfectly. Under our care, the wheels have been refinished to a beautiful silver and wrapped in a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
The interior is wrapped in black extended Novillo leather, and has seen a few small upgrades that really take the car to the next level. One of the signature interior elements in the E9X generation M3 is the unique Carbon Leather trim that spans the center of the dashboard. In place of that on this car sits a beautiful slab of glossy bare carbon fiber that provides a bit more contrast against the dark inside. The steering wheel is a take on the standard unit but features a flat bottom, Alcantara wrap, a blue band at the 12 o’clock position and M-color stitching holding it all together. Additionally, the car was very well equipped when new with options like Premium Package 2, the upgraded stereo system and Navigation system with i-Drive.

Powering this E90 M3 is the legendary S65 V8 - with 4.0 liters of displacement, this 414 horsepower motor is known for its ability to rev all the way to 8,400 rpm. With 8 individual throttle bodies, the throttle response is outstanding and both the induction noise and the sound that comes out of the tailpipes is intoxicating as you wind it around the tachometer. Under EAG’s care, the car is receiving a comprehensive service, along with new valve cover gaskets, belt tensioners, and motor mounts to ensure that it drives as well as you would expect from a car of this caliber. Based on a recent Blackstone oil analysis, this engine is in very good health and all element contents are well below their accepted ranges. This example is equipped with BMW’s 7-speed DCT dual clutch gearbox that offers seamless shifts and easy two-pedal driving in traffic. Some purists may say that a 6-speed manual is the best gearbox for this car but those who have driven both know that the DCT is the perfect match for this engine.
