EAG Impressions

The E9X series (E90 sedan, E91 wagon, E92 coupe, E93 convertible) continued BMW's tradition of evolutionary design for the 3-Series. This generation saw increased globalization of BMW's lineup, with U.S. models more closely matching their European counterparts in terms of available engines and features. The E92 M3, powered by a high-revving V8, was virtually identical in both markets, marking a significant milestone for American BMW enthusiasts who had long envied European-spec models.

Overview

Many enthusiasts consider the E9X generation BMW M3 to be the last true M Car. This assertion is based on the combination of naturally aspirated engine, lack of overly invasive computers and frequent optioning of a manual gearbox. But one thing that isn’t frequently talked about was the ability to order these cars without any interior LCD screens which may be one of the most important factors in the long run. As BMWs have always sat at the upper end of the car market from a price perspective - and the M3 typically being quite expensive given its size - those ordering a new BMW will frequently order it with all the latest tech gadgets. With the E9X chassis, there were numerous packages you could specify that would fit your car with a second “hump” in the dashboard that housed a screen for your navigation and many interior controls which were adjusted through the i-Drive system. Although very high tech at the time, as they age, these screens do show their age- as does any ten-plus-year-old tech product- making the so-called “single hump” cars uniquely desirable.

The interior is perhaps the most unique part of this car. Optioned with a combination of leather and cloth upholstery, this was an available option throughout the E9X model run, yet a small fraction of the production ended up with this specification. That number becomes even smaller when you factor in the single-hump dashboard - it is said that of the post-LCI E90 M3s, only 443 examples were specified without a Navigation screen. As you would expect, the interior of this car remains in fantastic condition and is completely stock from the factory.

History

When given the opportunity to bring this into inventory we spared no expense to make this special example ready for the next owner. We invested over 14k worth of services that include valve cover gaskets, motor mounts, water pump and thermostat, VANOS solenoid, all the way to adjusting the parking brake to recreate what this example felt like leaving the dealership for the first time, but enhanced.
