EAG Impressions
The E39 5-Series is often regarded as one of BMW's finest hours, striking a near-perfect balance between comfort, performance, and technology. While European markets enjoyed a wide range of engines, including efficient diesels and potent V8s, U.S. buyers had a more limited selection. The crown jewel of the lineup, the E39 M5, arrived in North America for the 2000 model year. Unlike previous generations, this M5 featured a V8 engine, bringing it closer in specification to its European counterpart. However, subtle differences remained, such as European models receiving a more advanced dynamic stability control system.
Overview
When the E39 M5 was unveiled at the 1998 Geneva Motor Show, it represented a sea change for the model and signified the M5’s evolution into a proper Autobahn missel. For the first time in BMW M’s history, the M5 was powered by a motorsport-derived V8 called the S62, which was connected to a 6-speed manual transmission. Although the E39 M5 was only 100 lbs heavier than the outgoing E34, it felt like a far more developed product thanks to its luxurious and thoroughly modern interior accommodations. When the car went on sale in late 1998, it immediately became the default choice for the well-heeled enthusiast looking for the perfect car to drive every day to the office but also take for a rip in the backroads on the weekend.
History
EAG sourced this last-year of production E39 M5 from the 2nd owner in 2012 when it had 3,485 miles and then placed it with a good friend + multiple EAG owner in Florida who enjoyed the car for 6 months then we purchased the car back with 7,050 miles. In 2013, we placed the vehicle with a collector in New Jersey where he enjoyed the car then shipped it to his home in California. This example is in remarkable condition! The Titanium Silver exterior paint has an awesome finish showing very few cosmetic imperfections or blemishes. The interior is well-preserved with supple leather showing with no wear marks or issues. This example has been well-maintained and has resided in a climate-controlled garage since new. Never driven in winter conditions, therefore, the body and undercarriage are spotless with no rust or beginning signs of corrosion.
Enthusiast driven upgrades have been added during its last ownership that include KW V3 suspension, SuperSprint mid-pipe, Dinan mufflers, and Eventuri intake system to enhance the visceral note all E39 M5 owners know so well!
