EAG Impressions
The E28 5-Series represented BMW's second generation of their executive sedan, building upon the success of the E12. While it retained a similar silhouette to its predecessor, the E28 brought refinements in aerodynamics, comfort, and performance. In Europe, enthusiasts were treated to the M535i, a precursor to the iconic M5. However, U.S. buyers initially had to settle for less potent options due to stricter emissions standards. It wasn't until 1986 that Americans finally got a taste of true M Division engineering with the introduction of the E28 M5, powered by a modified version of the M1 supercar's engine.
Overview
The E28 M5 is truly a special vehicle. It was the first BMW Motorsport offering for the United States in four door form. The figures would suggest this family saloon would pull ahead of Ferraris at the time and did so in an unassuming way that would serve as a bedrock for a platform still celebrated today. Unlike the newest offering found at dealerships this M5 offers a raw driving experience of pure mechanical symphony. The E28 M5 allows for the opportunity to build a relationship as each one has a personality. We've been fortunate enough to get to know this one and proud to now offer it to the next enthusiast fully serviced as an EAG E28 M5.
History
This incredible example first arrived at EAG in 2021 where we had the opportunity to indulge in its originality. Complete with service history and documentation when the vehicle was new back in 1988. After its arrival we performed our EAG Comprehensive Inspection and performed services to reset the baseline for any needs the vehicle may request from its new owner. These services include complete fluid and filter replacement, suspension refresh in the form the of the pitman arm replacement, rear shock replacement keeping the original self-leveling system in tact, and front thrust rod bushings.
We also identified any dry seals due to time and replaced anything required in the engine bay to make this a turn-key example. These services include valve cover gasket along with the rear cam plate seal and valve adjustment, intake boot, and all of the drive belts. The EAG Extra Mile service was also applied so the adjusting headrests were repaired and function tested, parking brake adjusted to factory spec, and all the way to replacing the front hood support shocks. An additional inspection and final check will be performed on this example prior to delivery to ensure the next fortunate owner can experience the E28 M5 as BMW M intended 37 years ago.
